Long Exposure Live Comp at Sunset with an Olympus Camera at Capitol Reef

Long Exposure Live Comp at Sunset with an Olympus Camera at Capitol Reef

Matt Suess on Jul 30th 2021

This was photographed before sunset in Capitol Reef National Park on my Olympus OM-D E-M1 MarkIII camera using Live Comp, which allowed me to get the cool long exposure effect in the clouds.

In order to do this long exposure I needed to use my NiSi 10 stop solid ND filter

I also added a 3 stop soft grad filter to darken the sky, and I used the enhanced landscape CPL to add a little boost to the color and contrast.

Using my M.Zuiko 8-25mm f4 pro lens at 10mm, I was shooting 2s exposures at f8 at ISO 200. I probably left the Live Comp running for somewhere between 5-10 minutes.

Image was processed in Capture One Pro with a touch of Luminar AI.

Here is a photo of my setup that evening.

Even if you don't use an Olympus camera, a 10 stop ND filter is a good filter to get long exposures around sunrise and sunset.

A 10 stop ND can prolong exposures for up to 5 minutes during golden hour with the appropriate settings.
